My work from 2008-2012 represents a personal progression through the use of a more diverse color palette, and heightened awareness of the delicacy of my subject matter.
Abstraction can sometimes give the impression of speed, heavy gesture and haste. Many of the works I've created over the past decade have indeed been rooted in a process surrounding these characteristics.
However, over the past two years, my appreciation for the natural push and pull of abstraction has grown deeper. This led me to seek out small areas, objects, and subjects in my paintings which may otherwise be lost, and to give them their own unique standing within the overall landscape of the piece. In this way, the minute scenes and "moments" in my work are allowed to breathe independently.
